Hello and welcome to this blog. I hope you will find it both informative and interesting.

In the first week of April 2019 I am taking part as a citizen scientist in a sailing expedition with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Watch on board their research vessel Silurian (some of you may remember it was used in the filming of Blue Planet (2000).

The expedition is called Joint Warrior. It takes place annually to coincide with the NATO exercises - previously called Joint Warrior - that take place around the Hebrides.

The intention of the expedition, to monitor changes in Cetacean behaviour during the NATO exercises.

The next blog posts will explain why I am taking part and why these exercises are an issue for whales and dolphins. https://hwdt.org/
